‘THE VILLAINESS’ to be released in Australia and New Zealand

The highly anticipated Korean action thriller THE VILLAINESS will be screened from June 29 2017 in major cities in Australia and New Zealand, according to the Cine Asia.

"Action Boys" and "Confession of Murder" director, Jeong Byeong-gil delivers a new brand of action thriller with "The Villainess” starring Kim Ok-Vin as Sook-Hee, a ruthless and highly trained killer.

Selected to stage its World Premiere at the Midnight Screening of the prestigious 70th Annual Cannes Film Festival, “The Villainess” received an audience stamp of approval being met with a standing ovation that lasted for four minutes.

Amongst those who attended the screening was famed Korean director Park Chan Wook, who has directed movies like ‘Oldboy’ and ‘The Handmaiden’.

The movie is unlike any other action film made in Korea and had viewers on the edge of their seats from the very beginning with an intricate action sequence that lasted for ten minutes.

“The Villainess” is about a ruthless female assassin named Sook Hwe (Kim Ok Bin) who was raised and trained in Yanbian, China and from an early age has been taught to kill.

She becomes a sleeper agent for South Korea’s Intelligence Agency, who promises her freedom after 10 years of service; however, two men from her past make an unexpected appearance in her life, bringing out dark secrets from her past.

Presented by Next Entertainment World and Apeitda, Cine Asia will distribute THE VILLAINESS through Event, Greater Union, Birch Carrol & Coyle, HOYTS and leading independent cinemas in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth plus Auckland and Christchurch from June 29, 2017.
