Internationally renowned Korean star tenor Yonghoon Lee plays the lead role of Rademes in Sydney Winter production of Aida, the most epic opera of all time.
Yonghoon has dazzled Australian audiences in his lead roles in some of the most famous operas including Carmen (2016), Turandot (2015), Tosca (2013), and now Aida this year.
In 2015 he brought the house down with his sustained high note in Nessun Dorma in Opera Australia’s Turandot and, in 2016 he played the role of Don Jose in Carmen.
He is indeed considered internationally as a leading tenor of his generation.
This new interpretation of Verdi’s world of Egypt, will convey the scale, depth and magnificence demanded by this monumental opera.
The set will feature Opera Australia’s new integrated digital technologies, transporting the audience experience to a whole new level and marking the first stage of this exciting new development in theatrical staging.
Coupled with Gianluca Falaschi’s magnificent costume designs, this brand new production is set to be a feast for the senses.
Completing the picture, Opera Australia has assembled a cast featuring some of the world’s best singers along with Lee.
American powerhouse soprano Amber Wagner, who made her OA debut in the 2016 Melbourne Ring Cycle, stunning audiences with the sheer beauty and size of her voice, will play Aida along with talented Australian soprano Natalie Aroyan who will be making her main-stage role debut as Aida in the second half of the season.
Joining them will be outstanding Italian tenor Riccardo Massi as Radamès, direct from The Met in NYC where he sang the role to great acclaim, and, in her OA debut, the stunning French-Russian mezzo-soprano Elena Gabouri will play Amneris.
