BTS leader RM's special love of Korean paintings

When South Korea's biggest annual art show, the Korean International Art Fair (KIAF), was on its course at the COEX convention center in southern Seoul on Sept. 26, a tall young man came to the venue, his face shaded under a cap.

He turned to the show's booth allotted to Johyun Gallery and stood planted for a long while in front of flower and bird paintings by Korean master painter Kim Chong-hak.


BTS rocks capital of Saudi Arabia

The strong religious culture in Saudi Arabia couldn't stop abaya-covered fans from springing up in their seats to dance as K-pop superband BTS performed its latest mega hit, "Boy With Luv," in the country's capital, Riyadh, Friday evening.

Religious restraints and Islamic doctrine melted away as the K-pop septet took the stage of Riyadh's King Fahd International Stadium and opened up its nearly three-hour concert to a rapt audience.


BTS' pop-up store to entertain fans in Seoul this month

K-pop world stars BTS will open a pop-up store in southern Seoul this month to entertain fans with artworks and fan merchandise, the band's management agency said Thursday.

The pop-up store, "House of BTS," will open at a four-story building in Seoul's posh district of Gangnam next Tuesday, according to Big Hit Entertainment. It will run for 80 days till Jan. 5.


Ex-Virgin Music chief says BTS opened door to success in U.S. for other K-pop acts

 The wild global success of Korean boy band BTS is not a stand-alone case but has opened the door for many more K-pop music acts to make inroads into the American music market, a high-profile U.S. music executive said Tuesday.

"BTS is a great success story. But BTS broke the ice; it is not the ice," Phil Quartararo, CEO of Tripod Partners, said in a press conference on the sidelines of MU:CON, the biggest K-pop fair in South Korea.


BTS' J-Hope releases collaboration with Becky G

J-Hope, a member of K-pop boy band BTS, will release Friday a hip hop single featuring American musician Becky G, his management agency said.

The song, "Chicken Noodle Soup," set for release Friday evening through BTS' official social media channels, is a recreation of the namesake song released by American musician, DJ Webstar and rapper Young B.

The new song will also come with a music video featuring J-Hope and Becky G, according to Big Hit Entertainment.


BTS video 'Blood Sweat & Tears' hits 500 mln YouTube views

BTS' 2016 music video "Blood Sweat & Tears" surpassed the YouTube milestone of 500 million views Wednesday, becoming the eighth BTS video do to so.

The video for "Blood Sweat & Tears," the main track of the K-pop band's second full-length album, "Wings," hit the threshold Wednesday morning, nearly three years since its release in October 2016.


BTS leader donates 100 mln won for students with hearing impairments

RM, the leader of the popular boy band BTS, has donated 100 million won (US$83,745) to help students with hearing impairments, a Seoul school said Friday.

The BTS leader made the donation earlier this week in celebration of his birthday, Sept. 12, in a bid to help students receive music education, according to officials at Seoul Samsung School.

"(RM) made the donation, expressing his will to help students with hearing difficulties enjoy music through various means," a school official said.


BTS agency rejects dating rumor about member Jungkook

The management agency of boy band BTS refuted a dating rumor involving the band's youngest member, Jungkook, on Tuesday.

The rumor originated from CCTV footage of a couple on the resort island of Geoje, which was circulated online. The image shows a man hugging a woman from behind in a shop, causing some people to allege that Jungkook is in a romantic relationship.

BTS' management agency, Big Hit Entertainment, however, flatly rejected the rumor, vowing stern legal action against any privacy-compromising behavior.


Wrapping up 1-month vacation, BTS resumes career with overseas trip

Bringing its first official vacation to an end, boy band BTS on Monday resumed its global music career by traveling away from its home country.

"Wrapping up its extended vacation, BTS departed overseas this morning for an engagement abroad," Big Hit Entertainment said.

The management agency did not disclose where the septet was headed, but they were reported to be on their way to film a TV reality show.


BTS plays role of ambassador of Korean culture

While fans across the globe are glued to every move the seven members of K-pop boy band BTS make, the septet has often drawn inspiration from Korea's traditional cultural heritage, promoting it through its worldwide music career.

BTS has often appeared in hanbok, traditional Korean dress, or hanbok-inspired stage costumes to perform a modern arrangement of one of the best-known Korean folk songs, "Arirang," during its overseas concerts. Such performances make the band a de facto ambassador for Korean culture.
