Korean Provisional Government’s independence activities heralded in Oceania 100 years ago

The Korean independence activities orchestrated by the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea were extensively heralded to Australia and New Zealand, according to a study by the National Unification Advisory Council, ASEAN Assembly.

The organisation has initiated the research to mark the centennial of the March 1 Independence Movement and the establishment of the provisional Government in Shanghai in order to trace back the region’s any reactions to or awareness of Korea rising up against Japanese colonial rule.

Amid snowballing criminal allegations that Seungri of globally popular K-pop boy band BIGBANG was behind a sex-for-business favor deal, the singer on Monday offered to retire entirely from the entertainment scene.

"It would be better for me to retire from the entertainment scene at this point," Seungri said in a post on his Instagram account.

S. Korea to build museum on world letters by 2021

South Korea plans to build a museum on the collection, display and study of world letters in the city of Incheon, west of Seoul, starting in July this year, the Incheon municipal government said Tuesday.

Completion of the National Museum of World Letters in the city's international business district of Songdo, as planned by the culture, sports and tourism ministry, is scheduled for 2021.

CJ's 4D theaters drew 23 mln moviegoers worldwide last year

 The 4D movie theater chain run by South Korean conglomerate CJ Group drew 23 million moviegoers with its 4D movie screens around the world last year, the company said Monday.

CJ 4DPLEX Co., the 4D screen chain of CJ's cinema brand CGV, currently runs 612 4D movie screens in 61 countries, screening 3D films with physical effects simulating rain, wind, vibration or other sensory stimuli to maximize cinematic experiences.

Lee Kwang-soo, Lee Sun-bin have been dating for 5 months

Rising actor and TV show star Lee Kwang-soo has been dating actress Lee Sun-bin for five months, the former's management agency acknowledged Monday.

The two Lees "have been dating passionately for five months ... since they first met through SBS TV show 'Running Man,'" according to Kingkong By Starship.

"They first became close colleagues through the show before their relationship evolved into a romantic relationship," the company said.

S. Korea's arts market grows 25 pct on higher architectural sculpture demand

South Korea's market for works of art grew nearly 25 percent in 2017 from a year earlier on increased demand for architectural sculptures, government data showed Thursday.

The total value of dealings of works of art reached 494.2 billion won (US$441.1 million) in 2017, up 24.7 percent from 2016 and the highest growth rate since 2008, when the first survey of the local art market was carried out by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts Management Service.
