Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite' wins Palme d'Or at Cannes

South Korean director Bong Joon-ho grabbed the highest honor at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival on Saturday for his black comedy movie "Parasite."

Bong became the first South Korean director to win the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Before him, Park Chan-wook was awarded the Grand Prix, the second-highest prize at the festival, for his thriller "Old Boy" in 2004.


Meet Vincent Van Gogh Experience

The exhibition "Meet Vincent Van Gogh Experience" (April 19-Aug. 25) will allow visitors to look, listen and touch the famed French artist's works at Seoul's Woojung Art Center.

Created by the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the event will feature life-size replicas of the streets, café and village where he spent his time, as well as reproductions of his works through 3-D printing. Visitors can get a free audio guide in Korean, English and Chinese. 


Vietnamese version of Korean TV show 'Running Man' goes on-air next month

 A Vietnamese version of "Running Man," a long-running TV variety show by South Korean channel SBS, will go on air next month in a joint production project by the two countries, the South Korean broadcaster said Tuesday.

The first episode of the Vietnamese edition will hit the small screen on April 6, on HTV7, one of the two main analog channels operated by Ho Chi Minh City Television, or HTV.

It is the second overseas edition of the popular South Korean show, following a version in Chinese.


Parramatta in Sydney celebrates Lunar New Year

The City of Parramatta has begun celebrating Lunar New Year in style with K-Pop dance workshops, an array of speciality food stalls, martial arts demonstrations and more.

The Year of the Pig celebrations was held in Centenary Square and hosted by SBS PopAsia’s Andy Trieu, with the main stage featuring Dragon and Lion dancing, fan dancing and a K-Pop showcase, on 7 February.

“Our Lunar New Year event is a great celebration of our City’s multicultural identity,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.


S. Korea, Denmark to promote cultural ties via various events

South Korea and Demark will initiate a yearlong special culture exchange program next week meant to commemorate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, Seoul's foreign ministry said Monday.

The two sides agreed to designate 2019 as "the year of mutual culture" when President Moon Jae-in visited Denmark last October.

A series of planned cultural events will begin with a performance by the Korean Symphony Orchestra in Copenhagen on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


Lotte to open 20 movie theaters in Indonesia by 2020 Movies 11:48 December 04, 2018

Lotte Cultureworks, the retail giant Lotte Group's cinema affiliate, has made inroads into Indonesia, with a goal to open 20 movie theaters in the Southeast Asian country by 2020, the company said Tuesday.

As the initial step, the operator of Lotte Cinema, one of the biggest South Korea movie theater chains, recently opened a theater inside Lotte Mart Fatmawati in southern Jakarta.
